Jhoan Duran Shared Heartfelt Message About Twins Before Trade to Phillies

The Philadelphia Phillies pulled off a major trade on Wednesday night ahead of MLB's deadline, sending two prospects to the Minnesota Twins in exchange for closer Jhoan Duran. He has a 6-4 record this season with 16 saves and a 2.01 ERA. He was ranked No. 4 on list of trade candidates ahead of Thursday.

About an hour prior to being shipped to Philly, Duran spoke about the possibility of being traded, and relayed a heartfelt message about his team and the city of Minnesota.

"That’d be hard," he said, via Dan Hayes. "Got a couple years here and I feel like here is my family so if that happens, that’s maybe breaking my heart a little bit."

After signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization in 2014, Duran was traded to Minnesota in '18, made his MLB debut in '22, and has been in the Twin Cities every since.

While it'll seemingly be an adjustment, the 27-year-old is heading from a 51-57 Twins team to a Phillies team tied for first place in the National League East—and desperate for an everyday closer.

Dodgers' Alex Vesia Away From Team to Deal With Personal Matter

On the eve of Game 1 of the World Series between the Dodgers and Blue Jays, Los Angeles pitcher Alex Vesia is away from his team.

"It's with a heavy heart that we share that Alex Vesia is away from the team as he and his wife Kayla navigate a deeply personal family matter," the Dodgers announced Thursday afternoon. "The entire Dodgers organization is sending our thoughts to the Vesia family, and we will provide an update at a later date."

On Friday, manager Dave Roberts told reporters via Sonja Chen of MLB.com that Vesia would likely miss the entire World Series.

Vesia, a 29-year-old native of Alpine, Calif., has spent five years with Los Angeles after playing for the Marlins as a rookie in 2020.

In 2025, Vesia pitched in 68 games. He has appeared in seven games this postseason, including the final two games of the National League Championship Series against the Brewers.

The Dodgers are seeking their second straight World Series title; no Major League Baseball team has done that since the Yankees won three straight from 1998 to 2000.

Tireless Bawne will 'put the body on the line' again to try and win the Ranji Trophy

“I’m a player who doesn’t question the selection committee and whatever is written for me, I’ll do that,” Ankit Bawne, now in his 13th Ranji Trophy season, says

Deivarayan Muthu14-Oct-2025Maharashtra’s marathon man Ankit Bawne is entering his 13th Ranji Trophy season after having made his debut as a 15-year-old against Karnataka in Ratnagiri back in December 2007. Eighteen years on, he still relishes the domestic grind and is motivated to perform.Being the second-highest run-getter among active Ranji players, behind Jammu & Kashmir professional Paras Dogra (9505), with 7244 runs, and the highest run-getter overall in the 50-over Vijay Hazare Trophy with 4010 runs is a testament to the 32-year-old’s durability and consistency.”I’m the only child for my parents and I’ve been staying away from home since I was 14,” Bawne told ESPNcricinfo in the lead-up to the new domestic season. “It has been a great journey, but still a long way to go and I believe there’s still a lot of runs left in me.Related

“I feel the grind is important no matter what level of cricket you play. Some play for India, some play for the state and maybe some players will stay at the league level and they won’t get higher honours. But I feel that attitude and discipline should always be there. I want people to remember me as a hard-working person and not somebody who has scored 10,000 runs or the all-time top-scorer in Vijay Hazare and all. It’s okay if they [selectors] drop me because I’m not scoring enough runs, but nobody should drop me because I’m not fit and just pushing my career.”Bawne was able to translate his domestic success to the India A level in red-ball cricket – he scored 663 runs in 19 innings at an average of just over 55 – but an opportunity at the next level didn’t come to pass. It has been more than five years since he last represented India A – the team management has moved on to a new pool of emerging players post Covid-19 – but that hasn’t deterred him from toiling away in domestic cricket.”I just want to control the controllables. Selection is not in my hands,” Bawne said. “I have got some centuries against good sides and captained India A. Suddenly, I was not part of India A, but I’m a player who doesn’t question the selection committee and whatever is written for me, I’ll do that. See, some umpiring decisions are not in your hands. Like that, the weather is also not in your hands .”After managing only two outright wins in seven matches in the previous Ranji season, Maharashtra have revamped their team, hiring two new professionals in Prithvi Shaw and Jalaj Saxena. They have also brought in Shaun Williams, the former Victoria batter and Bangladesh coach, as their director of cricket.

“As a domestic cricketer, you have to live a boring life. You have to wake up early. You have to look after your meals. You have to work out twice a day. So when you do that for 365 days, you will get used to this and this has been my life for the past 17 years”Ankit Bawne

While Saxena was a late signing, Shaw has already eased his way into the Maharashtra set-up with a century on debut in the pre-season Buchi Babu tournament in Chennai. Shaw even got a taste of Maharashtra captaincy in the KSCA’s K Thimmappiah Memorial Trophy. Bawne, who will captain Maharashtra in the upcoming Ranji Trophy, believes that the change in personnel will bring about a change in fortunes.”We could not achieve our goals in red-ball cricket, but we’ve been consistently doing well in white-ball cricket,” Bawne said. “It’s also important to mix and match the youngsters with experienced players. Prithvi has come in – he’s someone who has had success in Ranji Trophy and List A and has also played for India. He’s only 25 and can serve Maharashtra for a long time. Mumbai to Pune is not a big change for him. Whenever he wants to go to Mumbai, it’s just a three-hour drive and he can be with his family. Along with Prithvi, we have [Rajneesh] Gurbani also and we’re doing whatever is needed to make this the best red-ball team.”We were lacking a bit in the opening, but Prithvi is here now. Apart from Gurbani, Mukesh [Choudhary] is there and Ramakrishna Ghosh, who is an exciting allrounder; he’s part of CSK. Vicky Ostwal is making the step-up from Under-23 cricket. Arshin [Kulkarni] and Sachin [Dhas] are also very talented. So I feel we have a great unit this year. Our coaches Harshad Khadiwale and Samad Fallah are also hungry to do well and win the Ranji Trophy.”It has been more than five years since Ankit Bawne last represented India A•PTI Bawne also has a burning desire to win the Ranji title, something that has eluded him and his team for years. Maharashtra last won it way back in 1940-41. In 2013-14, Bawne came close to ending the trophy drought, but wound up losing the final to Karnataka in Hyderabad. Bawne had made twin half-centuries in that final, but he lamented his inability to convert his first-innings 89 into a big hundred.”The pre-season prep has been good and our president has also said Maharashtra is looking at winning the Ranji Trophy,” Bawne said. “I have achieved a lot in domestic cricket but have never won the Ranji Trophy. I remember that 90 [89] in that final against Karnataka; if I had scored 150, things might have been different. A Ranji title is something I can cherish all my life. So the goal is to put the body on the line and win it for Maharashtra.”Bawne has tuned up for the new domestic season by participating in Chennai’s first-division league in sapping heat. It has been his pre-season prep for more than a decade. He is happy to do the same “boring” routines and put himself through the domestic grind once again.”As a domestic cricketer, you have to live a boring life,” Bawne said. “You have to wake up early. You have to look after your meals. You have to work out twice a day. So when you do that for 365 days, you will get used to this and this has been my life for the past 17 years. I eat the same food, I sleep at the same time and I play the same Chennai league before going back to Maharashtra. I’ll be performing no matter what level I play because my routine is set and I’m well-prepared. Once you cross 29-30, you need to look after the body a bit more. I’m ready for it [another domestic season].”

Not Saka: Arteta must unleash new Henry-type player in Arsenal "superstar"

Arsenal know their quality, and they know that they have it within them to beat Crystal Palace on Sunday afternoon and keep the hype train moving forward.

The Premier League pace-setters just feel a bit special this year, don’t they? So balanced, so graceful, so dangerous. Defensively, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are a force to be reckoned with, an unbreakable wall, conceding so few chances.

Palace are an entertaining side, though, and they know how to score a goal. Though Oliver Glasner’s Eagles haven’t scored an overload of goals so far this season, they have created more xG (expected goals) than any other side in the Premier League.

The Emirates will expect three points, nonetheless. However, injuries, ever the bane of Arteta’s progress, could potentially knock the backline out of kilter.

Arsenal team news

The big concern. Gabriel Magalhaes faces a fight to be fit for the weekend clash, having left the pitch with a concern as Arsenal thrashed Atletico Madrid 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night. The Brazilian centre-back scored one and assisted another.

Should Gabriel be sidelined, the likes of Piero Hincapie and Cristhian Mosquera will be ready to dovetail into an iron-clad defensive line and stave off the Palace threat.

Much has been made of Arsenal’s attacking quality this season. ‘Boring’ is what Arteta’s frontline have been called. This is nonsense, and the emphatic win over Atletico emphasises the deadly array of talent the manager has at his disposal.

In particular, this could be a big match for Bukayo Saka, who has not yet hit his prolific stride this season, three goals from nine matches in all competitions, but remains the focal point for his side, creating 2.3 chances and winning 6.3 duels per Premier League game, as per Sofascore.

However, the England international can’t do it alone. Viktor Gyokeres must carry his continental form back onto the domestic scene, while Gabriel Martinelli will fancy his chances of kicking on after coolly converting in midweek.

But Martinelli may not start this one, with another Thierry Henry-esque Arsenal talent gunning for his place.

Arteta must unleash Arsenal's new Thierry Henry

Henry is one of the greatest players in Premier League history, and possibly the finest to ever wear an Arsenal shirt. Saka could retire with a similar reputation in north London, based on the 23-year-old’s early-career exploits, but there’s another who could start to perform with shades of the long-retired Frenchman.

And that starts this weekend, against Crystal Palace.

For Eberechi Eze, it’s a big one. The silky forward takes on the club who herald him as a hero, with Arsenal having signed the Three Lions star from Crystal Palace for £67m this summer, completing their frontline.

Aged 27, Eze is one of the finest wingers in the country, effortlessly good on the ball. His dribbling ability is a thing to behold, and he is a talented playmaker besides.

He is not, it’s worth stressing, the same kind of player as Henry, whose goalscoring prowess was simply incredible, far beyond the grasp of all but a select few Premier League players across the past three decades.

But there are similarities to be pulled. In 1999, Henry joined the London club from Juventus in a club-record deal. He was a World Cup winner, linking up with compatriots Patrick Vieira and Emmanuel Petit.

Highly regarded, it took Henry a while to find his feet in front of goal. Indeed, he went seven matches without a maiden strike in England’s top flight. In spite of this, he ended the campaign with 26 goals and 12 assists across all competitions, 17 goals in the Premier League.

And it’s not like Eze doesn’t know how to score. Last season, for Palace, he posted 14 goals and 11 assists across all competitions, proving the difference as Oliver Glasner’s project took off the ground in the closing months.

Moreover, his talismanic performances for Palace last year, notching the winner against Manchester City in the FA Cup final, showcase his big-game aura, something Henry had in bucketloads during his time at the Emirates.

Eze loves Crystal Palace dearly, but that will not stop him from striking against the Selhurst Park side, and Arteta might want to capture that potential on Sunday afternoon.

Eze might not have quite the same attacking repertoire as Henry, but he’s a fleet-footed, show-stopping wide forward, with analyst Ben Mattinson going as far as to hail him as a “superstar”.

But, there’s no denying he needs to start playing a little more prolifically, with just one goal and three assists to his name across all competitions in an Arsenal shirt. Eze has played 12 times under Arteta’s wing.

Perhaps he will look to take a leaf from Henry’s book in that regard, and marry his exceptional physical and technical qualities with a sharpness in the final third.

It will come. Eze’s level of talent is unquestionable, and he has proven across a number of years his quality and ability to provide clinical results in the Premier League.

And what better way to kick that off than against his former club, who herald him as a hero but may be forced to taste their legend’s ability as Arteta and Arsenal look to take another stride toward that elusive Premier League trophy.

0 passes made: Rohl must drop Rangers flop who was worse than Aasgaard

Glasgow Rangers picked up their first Scottish Premiership win of the Danny Rohl era at Ibrox on Sunday when they swept Kilmarnock aside with a 3-1 victory.

The Light Blues did find themselves drawing 1-1 at the break, because of an equaliser from George Stranger, but a dominant second-half showing turned their afternoon around.

There was a first Gers goal for summer signing Youssef Chermiti, signed from Everton for £8m, to wrap up all three points, after strikes from Derek Cornelius and Danilo had the hosts in front.

The Portugal U21 international, who had not scored a club career goal since the 2022/23 campaign with Sporting, found the back of the net from the edge of the box to end his drought.

There was also a first goal of the Premiership season for Brazilian striker Danilo, who headed in the second goal, in what was just his second league start of the campaign, per Sofascore.

Rohl should be delighted with the nature of the win and with several of his players, but there were some stars who still failed to deliver on the pitch. Thelo Aasgaard was one of them.

Why Thelo Aasgaard was underwhelming against Kilmarnock

The summer signing from Luton lined up in the middle of the park alongside Nicolas Raskin and Mohamed Diomande, but failed to provide much in the way of quality in possession of the ball.

Per Sofascore, Aasgaard ended the match without any shots or key passes in 81 minutes on the pitch, which shows that he offered very little at the top end of the park.

The English-born attacking midfielder, to his credit, did complete all three of his attempted dribbles in the game, showing good composure under pressure in tight situations, but the end product in the business end of the pitch was not there.

That has, unfortunately, been a recurring theme of Aasgaard’s season with Rangers in the Premiership, aside from his brilliant performance against Dundee United for interim head coach Stevie Smith, when he scored a phenomenal solo goal.

As you can see in the table above, Aasgaard did not offer much of a threat as a scorer or a creator under Russell Martin, with no goals and one chance created in five appearances, and that was also the case for Rohl’s first match, with no shots, goals, key passes, or assists.

It is now down to the manager and the player to find a solution to his struggles for the Light Blues because his performance against Dundee United shows that the quality is there for him to be a real difference-maker for the Gers.

Chalkboard

Football FanCast’s Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.

Whilst Aasgaard will be disappointed with how he performed in the middle of the park for the Gers, it is Bojan Miovski who should be dropped from the starting XI for his display, as he was even worse than the midfielder.

Why Danny Rohl should drop Bojan Miovski

The former Sheffield Wednesday head coach should ruthlessly ditch the summer signing from Girona from the starting line-up after a dismal performance against Kilmarnock on Sunday.

Miovski was hauled off at half-time by Rohl after an underwhelming first-half display that may leave the manager wondering about who his first-choice centre-forward will be, particularly after Danilo’s contribution.

The left-footed star did have the ball in the back of the net in the first-half, shortly after Kilmarnock’s equaliser, but it was later ruled out for offside because he was slow to get back in line with play.

That was his only moment of note in the half as the rest of his performance left a lot to be desired. Miovski did not get involved enough in the build-up phases of play and failed to impose any physicality on the Killie central defenders to hold the ball up for the Gers.

As you can see in the table above, the 26-year-old centre-forward was worse than the Norway international at Ibrox on Sunday, as he contributed virtually nothing to the team, whilst Aasgaard, at least, won half of his duels and was more reliable with the ball at his feet.

No goals, no assists, no shots, no chances created, no duels won, not even a pass completed. Losing the ball four times from five touches is simply not up to the standards that should be set for a Rangers number nine, which may be why Rohl decided to withdraw him at half-time.

Rangers need more from Miovski because he has not offered enough at the top end of the pitch since his move from Spanish side Girona in the summer transfer window.

Since his switch to Ibrox, the left-footed marksman has only scored two goals in ten appearances in all competitions for the Scottish giants, once in the League Cup against Hibernian and once in the Premiership against Falkirk.

Miovski has scored one goal and missed three ‘big chances’ in six appearances in the Premiership to date, per Sofascore, which shows that he has not provided enough of a goal threat for a player who is in the team almost solely to score goals.

This is why Rohl should ruthlessly ditch the misfiring centre-forward from the starting line-up for the club’s trip to Hibernian in the Premiership in midweek.

Rohl must make "offensive" star first Rangers signing after Meghoma error

Danny Rohl must make this star his first Rangers signing after Jayden Meghoma’s performance on Thursday.

ByDan Emery Oct 25, 2025

Danilo and Chermiti, with their goals against Kilmarnock, have shown that they are ready to step up and deliver for the Scottish giants, which provides the manager with alternative options in that position.

Kyle Schwarber, Three Others Commit to Play for U.S. in World Baseball Classic

The year 2026 is a big one for the United States, which turns 250 on July 4—and Phillies designated hitter Kyle Schwarber seems set to celebrate America's semiquincentennial in style.

Schwarber will play for the United States in the World Baseball Classic, USA Baseball announced Tuesday morning—shortly before news broke that he had re-upped with Philadelphia for five years and $150 million.

The 32-year-old also competed in the 2023 event, slashing .214/.450/.643 with two home runs and four RBIs for the American silver medalists. In 2025, Schwarber led the National League with 56 home runs—the second time in four years he's led the Senior Circuit in the category.

Joining Schwarber on the team are Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson, Dodgers catcher Will Smith (a '23 alum), and Brewers second baseman Brice Turang (an accomplished player on the United States's under-15 team).

The Americans are scheduled to open WBC play on March 6 against Brazil.

Yankees Radio Call of Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Grand Slam Hilarious Unless You’re From NY

The Blue Jays beat the Yankees in Game 2 of the ALDS on Sunday, 13-7. Toronto had a 5-0 lead in the bottom of fourth when Vladimir Guerrero Jr. came to the plate and hit a grand slam. It was an incredible moment inside the Rogers Center as the home crowd errupted.

Outside the Yankees dugout there might have only been two people completely silent, and they were both in the WFAN broadcast booth. Dave Sims and Suzyn Waldman were there to call the game for the folks listening on the radio back in New York and Gueerrero's grand slam did not seem to excite them.

"So you got Giménez at third, Straw at second, Springer at first," Sims described to the fans listening on the radio. "One out. Guerrero at the dish and a 2-1 count. He's looking to unload right here. 2-1. Pitch. He did. Deep drive, left field. Grand Slam."

It doesn't get shorter or more to the point than that. A full 20 seconds passed before Waldman finally broke the silence and confirmed how badly things were going for the Yankees.

Before the game, a much happier Sims posted a picture with Waldman that definitely could be classified as an image that precedes an unfortunate event for Yankees fans.

The Blue Jays now lead the series 2-0 with a chance to win the series on Tuesday at Yankee Stadium.
