Everton in pole position to sign "terrific" gem for Dyche in summer deal

Following the positive outcome of their appeal, which has seen their point deduction reduced to six, having initially been as many as 10, Everton can finally shift their focus to staying up in the Premier League and then targeting some summer additions as a result. With that said, talks are already reportedly underway to welcome a future star for Sean Dyche.

Everton transfer news

The majority of the headlines regarding Everton have been stolen by their FFP issues and rumours regarding the futures of current stars Amadou Onana and Jarrad Branthwaite. The former has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Newcastle United in the past and those rumours will likely only come back around when the summer transfer window swings open.

Meanwhile, Branthwaite, after an incredibly impressive breakthrough season, has been mentioned alongside Tottenham Hotspur and even Real Madrid in what would be a sensational move. Reportedly valued at £75m, the centre-back could be involved in one of the deals of the summer.

Among the concerning news about financial breaches and departures, however, those at Goodison Park do at least have some positives to focus on with one of those being the potential arrival of an Irish sensation.

According to Pete O'Rourke of Football Insider, Everton have opened talks to sign Mason Melia and are in pole position to sign the St Patrick's Athletic forward this summer. Just 16-years-old, Melia is reportedly considered one of the best young talents to emerge from Ireland and now looks set to get a Premier League chance in the form of a summer switch to Everton.

What's more, as per Football Insider, the teenager even attracted the interest of Liverpool last summer, which makes Everton's move all the more satisfying should they get the deal over the line in the coming months.

"Terrific" Melia is one for the future

At just 16-years-old, Melia is already making strides into senior football in Ireland with seven appearances and even a goal and an assist to his name for St Patrick's Athletic this season. The centre-forward has also featured for Ireland's U19 side in a sign of things to come for what is looking likely to be an impressive career both at club level and international for Melia.

It is Everton who will be hoping to reap the rewards of his rise, however, as they look to finalise their move. Melia, meanwhile, if he completes his Premier League switch, will be hoping to make an instant impression on his way to Dyche's first team.

The likes of Beto and Dominic Calvert-Lewin have struggled to lead the line for the Toffees this season, creating the opening for a new star to emerge. And the Republic of Ireland Player Tracker X account will certainly believe that Melia has the ability to become that star, having previously sung his praises.

After impressing in Ireland, Melia is one to watch, whether that be in Merseyside this summer or elsewhere.

Arsenal keen on "fantastic prospect" ahead of Manchester United – report

Arsenal and Manchester United have both joined the race for an exciting French young talent, it has been reported, as both sides look to the future.

Gunners looking to the future

Arsenal are enjoying a fantastic season and currently sit atop the Premier League table as they look to go one better than last season's second-place finish.

Even more impressively, Mikel Arteta and co. have built their side largely on young talent, ensuring that their presence at the top of English football is only set to continue for years to come.

The likes of Bukayo Saka, William Saliba, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli are all likely to have their best years still ahead of them should they manage to avoid serious injuries, while Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira are among those who could still make the step up.

It is not just their first team that is making waves though, and the Gunners have begun to place an increased importance on their academy talents, both in recruiting from other sides and developing their own prospects.

Charlie Patino, Mika Biereth and Brooke Norton-Cuffy are all enjoying loan spells away from the club to varying degrees of success. Meanwhile, the Gunners have made tying down young talent their priority, and announced a professional contract for Ethan Nwaneri on Thursday after making him the youngest-ever Premier League player last season.

In securing his signature, they fought off competition from Chelsea and Manchester City, and their focus on youth is only set to continue into the summer.

Arsenal and Manchester United chase youngster

With that in mind, it comes as no surprise to hear that Arsenal are one of several clubs chasing talented youngster Joachim Kayi Sanda.

Sanda currently captains the France U18 side and was part of the U17 side that lost the World Cup final on penalties to Germany last December.

His performances have attracted the attention of several massive clubs, with Manchester United, Newcastle, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain all alongside Arsenal in showing interest in the talented teen, according to transfer journalist Graeme Bailey.

Sanda was among four players at French side Valenciennes dubbed a "fantastic talent" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, and is expected to have a big future ahead of him.

However, those European giants may all be foiled by Championship outfit Southampton, whose owners also own Valenciennes. There is hope from the Saints that the promise of regular first-team football could see the youngster opt for the south coast outfit over big-name sides, though the latest report claims that 'their hopes could rest on whether promotion back to the Premier League can be achieved.'

Under contract with his current side until 2026, Sanda is expected to leave this summer nonetheless, with the club's youngest-ever player looking to take the next step in his career.

New update on Casemiro transferBrazilian linked with Saudi Pro LeagueSet to retain squad role with Man UtdWHAT HAPPENED?

According to , the heavily rumoured possibility that Casemiro could leave Old Trafford for a wealthy club in the Saudi Pro League is less likely than it was. The interest is described as "cooling of late". However, a departure later in the summer window is still not completely off the table.

Advertisementgetty imagesTHE BIGGER PICTURE

After an excellent debut season, Casemiro's form dipped in 2023-24 and his departure, largely because of weekly wages thought to be around £350,000, has been a central part of the rebuilding narrative that has followed United since Sir Jim Ratcliffe's partial takeover. The most obvious destination for a high earner over the age of 30 has been Saudi Arabia.

DID YOU KNOW?

Fabrizio Romano has a slightly different view, suggesting that Saudi Pro League interest has not necessarily cooled, but rather the lack of progress in any transfer is relatively normal over the complex nature of it. He said in a : "The exit of Casemiro remains an important part of the story [of Man Utd pursuing Manuel Ugarte], but honestly guys, I can't confirm anything regarding rumours that United are having trouble selling him…no. Interest from Saudi in Casemiro remains but sometimes it just takes time to agree on contract, transfer fee and more."

'The lateral movement is big' – Ajinkya Rahane's pink-ball experience

Some of India’s Test regulars trained with the SG pink balls at NCA in preparation for the Kolkata Test

ESPNcricinfo staff12-Nov-20194:02

Rahane on first tryst with pink ball and sessions under Dravid

Playing late, and close to the body, is the key to counter the pink ball – that’s the early learning India’s Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane is taking back with him after training against the pink ball for the first time over the past few days.Rahane was part of a small bunch of players from the Indian Test squad, who practised with the pink ball at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru in the lead up to the Bangladesh Test series, which includes a day-night Test, the first for either team, in Kolkata from November 22.Not many top-drawer Indian players have actually played competitive cricket with the pink ball, which Rahane said was a “different ball game” from the red ball. “We had two good practice sessions, actually three or four but two in pink ball, one during the day and one under lights,” Rahane said at a press conference in the lead up to the first Test in Indore. “It was actually exciting. It was the first time I played with pink ball, and definitely it’s a different ball game as compared to red ball.”ALSO READ: SG pink ball to be used for maiden day-night Test in IndiaAlong with Rahane, the others who were present at NCA were Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara among the batsmen, and Mohammed Shami and Ravindra Jadeja. The training sessions took place under the stewardship of NCA director of cricket, Rahul Dravid.”Our focus during the practice session was to look into the swing and seam, and also play close to our body,” Rahane said. “What we found out after the practice session that the pink ball does a lot (more) than the red ball. We have to play slightly late and close to your body. We had word with Rahul also as he was there. We had a very good practice session. Right now the focus is on the first Test match, the red SG ball.”The Kolkata Test will also be the first time SG pink balls will be used at the highest level, making it a trial for the balls as well. Incidentally, the BCCI had preferred the Kookaburra in the Duleep Trophy, which has been played under lights in the last three seasons. Irrespective of the make, it will take some adjusting for the players to do, but Rahane was confident it wouldn’t be a problem.”The lateral movement is big, actually a lot than the red ball,” he said. “Adjustment-wise, I’m sure everyone will adjust very quickly. We are used to playing different formats – after T20s we play Tests. It’s just the mindset, technical skills will play a role. Mentally if you can adjust to the pink ball, then it’ll be good.”Speaking to ESPNcricinfo in September, more than one prominent Indian domestic player had given the thumbs-down to the pink ball, with Faiz Fazal saying, “There was nothing for bowlers (with the pink ball).”Suresh Raina tosses the pink ball to Ashok Dinda during the 2016-17 Duleep Trophy•AFP

With barely any experience of playing with the pink ball, Rahane did not want to get drawn into comparing the SG and the Kookaburra. But he said the SG pink helped the spinners get more revolutions on the ball. “We played against spinners in Bangalore, and they were getting good revs on the ball. Yes, the shine is completely different to the red ball, but it’s very hard to compare with SG ball and the Kookaburra ball.”I’ve never played with the pink ball. And what I’ve heard from other people is that the Kookaburra ball is actually really easy for the batsmen. But what we saw in Bangalore and played in Bangalore is that the SG ball was doing a bit for the fast bowlers. For spinners, it is difficult but it is very hard for me to say right now about Kookaburra and SG ball.”Unlike Rahane, Pujara has encountered the pink ball in the past, at the 2016 Duleep Trophy, when he topped the scorers’ chart with 453 runs from three innings, hitting two centuries including an unbeaten 256 not out.”I have played with the pink ball, in the Duleep Trophy, and the experience was a good one. The day-night Test will be a five-day game, those were four-day games, this will be a Test-match scenario, so it will be exciting,” he told bcci.tv.He did, however, concede that some of the other batsmen did have problems picking the ball, especially in the latter stages of the days and when facing wristspinners.”During the day, there will be no visibility issues with the pink ball. In my experience, the twilight period and the period under lights are more difficult. Those sessions will be crucial,” he said. “My experience as a batsman was a good one. Even as a team we did well. But some of the other players I had spoken to said that especially when facing a wristspinner, their wrong’uns were difficult to pick. When Kuldeep (Yadav) was bowling, it was difficult to pick his wrong’un.”India and Bangladesh, as well as Afghanistan and Ireland, are the only teams to not have played a pink-ball Test yet, and their maiden foray in the new direction came about when Sourav Ganguly, soon after taking charge as the BCCI president, proposed the plan calling it a “huge step forward”, and the BCB, after discussing the matter with the players, gave it the go-ahead.

"Top young" West Brom player has said goodbyes ahead of transfer exit

A "top young" West Brom player is set to leave the club and has already said his goodbyes, according to a new update regarding his future.

West Brom promotion & transfer news

The Baggies will hope that the summer transfer window is spent with them preparing for life back in the Premier League, depending on how the rest of this season pans out. Carlos Corberan's side are currently fifth in the Championship table with nine matches remaining, so failure to at least finish in the playoffs would have to be considered a disappointment.

Some key January additions arrived at the club, including Mikey Johnston on loan from Celtic, while Yann M'Vila represented an exciting free transfer last month.

The recent takeover of West Brom has brought further positivity to the club, and the hope is that additional funds will be made available in the summer, although new owner Shilen Patel has admitted that they must spend within their means moving forward, saying:

"I think to be a responsible and sustainable operation is crucial. The club is going to have what it needs to operate within the boundaries of the league. We’re absolutely going to have to increase our expertise in getting the most out of everything in front of us."

Young West Ham striker Callum Marshall has been linked with a move to The Hawthorns, being seen as a potential replacement for Brandon Thomas-Asante, but there could be players who leave West Brom during the summer window, however, and an update has emerged regarding one young individual.

"Top young" player to leave West Brom

According to a fresh claim from The Secret Scout on X, West Brom youngster Keilan Quinn is set to complete a move to Aston Villa, bringing an end to his time at the Hawthorns:

"BOOM! Understand Aston Villa are set to complete signing of 16-year-old Keilan Quinn from rivals West Brom. The 2007 born midfielder has already said his goodbyes. West Brom continuing to produce top young players."

Losing Quinn has to be considered a blow for West Brom, considering the 16-year-old's long-term potential as a player, already making 11 appearances for the Baggies' Under-18s, despite being below that age range.

In fairness, the lure of joining Villa has seemingly proved too good to turn down, given their Premier League status, and it looks as though he sees a switch across the Midlands as best for his development. It could be argued that staying put at West Brom may have been better for him in that respect, but only time will tell.

It is now a case of the Baggies ensuring that they don't keep on losing emerging young talents in the coming years, with long-term planning at the club so important under Patel, not to mention blooding homegrown players and turning them into both key players and genuine assets who could be sold for good money over time.
