With the January transfer window now approaching the final stretch, West Ham United are yet to conclude any business, though David Moyes is certainly working toward bringing in some fresh faces.
Last year, the Hammers finished 14th in the Premier League after successive top-seven finishes. However, the Europa Conference League was conquered to provide a pathway into continental competition for a third successive season.
West Ham manager David Moyes
West Ham are back on track this season and sit sixth in the table, also advanced to the last 16 in the Europa League, but there's a lack of depth that needs countering before the market draws its shutters at the end of the month.
The player West Ham could sign after Phillips
As per The Guardian, West Ham are hoping to complete the loan signing of Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips this month and are working on a compromise on City's demands of a £7m loan fee.
This is not the only move in the works, however, with the publication also revealing that West Ham are looking at potentially signing Chelsea striker Armando Broja after rejection from Aston Villa in a bid to land Jhon Duran on loan.
Chelsea striker Armando Broja.
Chelsea could demand up to £50m to sign the 22-year-old and this would prove a sticking point for the Irons, but then, frankly, few teams would likely meet this figure.
West Ham make contact over signing "underrated" Kalvin Phillips alternative
The Hammers have held talks with his agent.

Why West Ham want to sign Armando Broja
Broja, aged 22, missed the majority of the 2022/23 campaign and the start of the current season after suffering an ACL injury, and while he is back in the mix at Stamford Bridge, he has only started five games in the Premier League under Mauricio Pochettino, scoring one goal.
Also netting against Preston North End in the FA Cup earlier this month, the 17-cap Albania international, who has been described as "athletic and powerful" by talent scout Jacek Kulig, has the quality to succeed in the Premier League and would be wise to consider a move to a team such as West Ham.
With Michail Antonio ageing and injured and Danny Ings proving unreliable in front of goal for the London Stadium side, netting just three times from 42 appearances, the 6 foot 3 Broja could finally return to the kind of form that got English football buzzing during his loan spell with Southampton.
With a six-goal return across just 21 starts in the English top-flight with Saints, his first real taste of the division, Broja displayed his goalscoring faculty in all its bright colour, with journalist Jacob Tanswell even declaring him an “animal” for his tenacious and imposing performances.
As per FBref, the £40k-per-week ace ranks among the top 1% of forwards across Europe's top five leagues over the past year for pass completion, the top 4% for successful take-ons, the top 6% for touches in the attacking box and the top 10% for blocks per 90.
Considered a comparable player to Newcastle United talisman Alexander Isak via FBref's 'Similar Players' model, perhaps Broja's signature would be worth a punt in east London.
Way back in 2016, West Ham coincidentally pursued a deal for the Swedish striker when he played in his homeland for AIK, though nothing came about in the end. That said, the Irons were enticed by his skill set and could now rectify the failed venture with a successful swoop for Broja.
This season, Newcastle haven't reached the same heights that saw them clinch Champions League qualification last year but Isak has been emphatic in offence, scoring 14 goals from 23 outings.
Like Broja, he is more than just a sharpshooter, with the 24-year-old ranking among the top 13% of positional peers in Europe for pass completion, the top 11% for progressive carries and the top 12% for successful take-ons per 90, with technical quality and a progressive nature to rival Broja.
The Chelsea striker will want to play a prominent role as he looks to make a name for himself in the English game, and with West Ham in need of a talisman, it could be a match made in heaven.

Man Utd to retain Erik ten Hag
Dutchman has three major demands
Wants Sancho to apologise before return
WHAT HAPPENED?
Despite being linked with a number of different managers since the end of the season, United have finally decided to stay put with the Dutchman and will reportedly offer him a three-year contract extension. However, he reportedly has three major demands before will accepts the deal.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
As per , the first of the three demands is that he does not want any meddling in team tactics matters by technical director Jason Wilcox, who attempted to suggest that the Dutchman should play Bruno Fernandes in a false nine role in their FA Cup final against Manchester City.
The second demand comes in the form of the ongoing feud between Ten Hag and Jadon Sancho after the two had a public meltdown over the winger's commitment in training. Sancho then labelled Ten Hag a liar on social media and was frozen out of the squad by the Dutchman. Ten Hag has made it clear that he does not want the Englishman back in the first team until he apologises.
The third demand is that he wants first-team coach Benni McCarthy's contract renewed as well alongside his own.

DID YOU KNOW?
Ten Hag was on the verge of being sacked before shocking Manchester City in the FA Cup final. A rally of support meant it was eventually decided that he would remain at the club, even though United finished eighth in the Premier League – a record low for the team – and gave up a record-breaking 58 goals to finish with a negative goal differential for the first time in their history.

WHAT NEXT FOR TEN HAG?
Ten Hag will now begin preparations for the pre-season and the upcoming campaign as he will look to improve on last season's woeful Premier League finish, while they will also compete in the Europa League after winning the FA Cup.
Dube and Axar struck 121 runs in a 67-ball seventh-wicket partnership while Yuzvendra Chahal took a five-wicket haul
Sreshth Shah29-Aug-2019Reeza Hendricks’ 110 was not good enough for South Africa A as India A trumped the visitors in the first one-dayer by 69 runs. Allrounders Shivam Dube and Axar Patel struck quickfire fifties to rescue the hosts from a perilous position, after which their spinners – especially Yuzvendra Chahal, who took a five-wicket haul – dismantled South Africa A.Sent in to bat, India A were in trouble when they lost their fifth wicket for 169 runs in the 28th over. The set duo of Manish Pandey and Ishan Kishan had fallen in the space of three deliveries and Krunal Pandya was to fall soon after. That’s when No. 8 Axar joined No. 7 Dube, and the duo finished with nine fours and nine sixes between them, batting through the next 11.1 overs. In that period, they smashed 121 runs, especially severe on left-arm spinner George Linde who bowled his five overs at an economy of 9.80.At the break, India A walked back for 327 for 6 in 47 overs, but the picture could’ve been much different had the seventh-wicket partnership not taken place. Each of their first six batsmen earned starts but failed to capitalise on them. Opener Shubman Gill fell four short of a half-century while Pandey and Kishan succumbed in their thirties. Rituraj Gaikwad made 10, Anmolpreet Singh made 29 while Krunal made a 25-ball 14.In their chase, South Africa A were rocked by Janneman Malan’s dismissal in the eighth over, out caught-behind off Chahal. Chahal soon removed Matthew Breetzke too, and when the South Africa A captain Temba Bavuma fell for eight, they were reeling at 81 for 3. The other opener Hendricks, though, went on to notch two useful partnerships with Khaya Zondo (30) and Heinrich Klaasen (58) and earn his 13th List-A hundred, giving South Africa A a window of opportunity. But pinpoint bowling from the India A spinners, who bowled 27 of the 45 overs, helped the hosts control the game. And when South Africa A went for the late charge, they cashed in, with Axar collecting two wickets and Chahal a further three. For his allround contributions, Axar was named Player of the Match. The second of five one-dayers will be played on August 31.
The right-wing has arguably been Manchester United’s weakest position in the starting XI for the past decade.
Jadon Sancho and Antony are the latest two players that have been signed in an attempt to fill that role, but neither have impressed.
Facundo Pellistri and Amad Diallo were also both signed, with United viewing them as long-term suitors out wide, but Erik ten Hag has sent the Uruguayan on loan, and he is yet to trust the ex-Atalanta wonderkid.
Manchester United forward Amad Diallo.
Next summer, the Red Devils will look to address the position once again, with Michael Olise potentially the next star to attempt to break the curse, but should they have stuck with a former attacker instead?
Antony’s time at Man United
Over the last year and a half, Antony has failed to live up to the high standards of being a United player since signing for a huge £82m, especially considering he broke into the side with a debut goal against Arsenal.
The Brazilian has made a further 68 appearances since then, yet he has only added eight goals to his tally and four assists, which is concerning considering he cost such a hefty fee.
Alarmingly, what’s even worse is that he has failed to score or assist at all in the Premier League this season after 19 matches, with his only contributions occurring in an FA Cup tie against League Two opponent Newport County.

To make matters worse, he's even being outperformed by a player who left in 2021 having net set the world alight in Manchester.
Daniel James’ stats since leaving in 2021
Just like Antony, Daniel James’ United career started with a bang, as the winger scored on his debut against Chelsea in 2019. The Welsh attacker would go on to score in three of his first four games for the club, but his game time became limited.
This ultimately led to his exit in 2021 at the hands of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, two years after being signed for £15m from Swansea City. The speedster moved to one of the Red Devils biggest rivals in Leeds United for £25m, which remarkably saw United actually profit from him.
Dan James
However, his time at Leeds began slowly, and in 69 games for the club, he has netted 14 goals and registered 12 assists.
A loan move to Fulham failed to be a success, but this season he has developed into one of the most dangerous players in the Championship.

As you can see, James has netted ten goals and registered six assists in the league this season over 27 games, which is the seventh-best goal-contribution record in the league.
United could have done with this level of output from Antony this season, with it only being recently that Ten Hag's team have started to find the back of the net consistently.
But it still begs the question: Would United have been better off keeping James over their recent right-wing acquisitions?
A rollicking run-fest at Warner Park in Basseterre ended with the second-highest successful T20 chase of all time, with hosts St Kitts and Nevis Patriots scaling down Jamaica Tallawahs’ 241 for 4 with seven balls to spare. The batting records tumbled on a night when the CPL got two highest team totals in a matter of hours. In all, 37 sixes were hit in the match, the joint-most in T20 cricket. Patriots’ win also resulted in the first points taken by a team other than Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders this CPL.Chris Gayle held the largest share of that, hitting ten sixes during his 22nd T20 century in the company of Chadwick Walton, whose 36-ball 73 came in a record CPL stand of 162. But Evin Lewis set the chase rolling with the fastest CPL fifty, off 17 balls, and the rest of the top four put in significant performances as Patriots overcame a late stumble to complete the win.Patriots hand the advantage earlyAfter a delayed start due to broadcast issues, Patriots opted to open the bowling with the left-arm spin of Fabian Allen. This played into the hands of Gayle, who hit him for two sixes and a four within the first four balls. In the second over, Alzarri Joseph bowled two bouncers to concede a no-ball, bowled a wide off the free hit, and then a short ball to give away a four. Without any risks, Tallawahs got 26 off the first two and put the pressure on Patriots.A record partnership, a record totalDespite the early damage, Patriots enforced a brief period of quiet by bowling their seamers for seven overs in a row, including bowling six straight dot balls from Carlos Brathwaite to Walton at the start of his innings. But when legspinner Usama Mir came on, the shackles were broken again. Walton hit him for two glorious straight sixes in an over that went for 19, and the pair didn’t relent from there. Walton kept the rate up when Gayle was kept quiet, with stylish strokes straight over the bowlers, and one especially inventive ramp over third man.Mir’s second over set Gayle free, the flat trajectory landing nicely in his arc as he lifted him over long-on in a 15-run over. With runs coming quickly from both ends, Patriots’ haphazard bowling plans were put under even more pressure. From the 11th to the 16th overs, Tallawahs hammered 13 sixes and one four. Only in one over during that period did an over go for under two sixes.Chris Gayle and Chadwick Walton fist-bump during their partnership•CPL T20 via Getty Images
In a rare quiet 17th over, Gayle brought up his 22nd T20 hundred, and off the next ball, the pair took a double that brought up the highest CPL partnership for any wicket – 162. Walton holed out against Joseph, Gayle off Allen – who also dismissed Andre Russell – in the last over for 116 off 62 balls. But it was too late by then. The last ten overs had leaked 153 and Tallawahs had reached a record CPL total.Patriots fly in the chaseThe record-breaking streak continued into the Patriots innings, with the pitch proving with every over that it had nothing for the bowlers. Lewis picked the off side against both Jerome Taylor and offspinner Steven Jacobs, hitting delightful sixes square off the former, and attacking the straight boundaries off the latter. Opening with the promoted Devon Thomas, Lewis smashed 53 off 18 balls and was dismissed with the score on 85 in 5.3 overs. With 89, Patriots had the second-highest Powerplay score in the CPL.The wicket didn’t put a stop to the scoring. At No. 3, Laurie Evans began with a four first ball and continued the attack with Thomas. He was fed several leg-stump deliveries, some of them duly put away for sixes, as Thomas was characteristically more deft with his scoring options, trying to pick the gaps in the field to hit more fours than sixes. They put on 76 off 39 before Evans’ check-shot found sweeper cover at the end of the 12th over. At that point, they needed 81 off eight overs, far below the original asking rate of 12.10.Allen shows how it’s doneWicketkeeper Glenn Phillips took a sensational flying catch to his right, one-handed, as Thomas’ attempted slog against Oshane took a big outside edge. It turned out to be the first of three wickets in the 14th over, which had begun with Patriots needing 66 from 42 with eight wickets in hand. Captain Carlos Brathwaite slapped one to sweeper cover and Jason Mohammed edged one down the leg side trying to pull, for a three-ball duck. From 161 for 1, Patriots stumbled to 177 for 5.From being favourites, Patriots seemed to be slipping, with their coaching staff visibly frustrated at what seemed to be a compulsion to play big shots. But Allen alleviated any anxieties from the Oshane over, playing two controlled shots – a classy drive past mid-off and a cut past point – to pick up fours off consecutive balls against Russell. At the other end, Shamarh Brooks survived after swinging and missing at a few, before he too found the boundaries in an important 15-ball 27. When he fell in the penultimate over, with Patriots needing 15 from 12, Brooks and Allen had already put up 50. Soon, Allen pulled Russell over midwicket, cut him past point, and hooked him over short fine leg to seal the victory without needing the last over. Allen’s unbeaten 15-ball 37 came at a remarkable strike rate of 246.66, considering how chanceless and risk-free his innings had been.
Manchester United progressed to the quarterfinals of the FA Cup on Wednesday evening, as they narrowly defeated Nottingham Forest 1-0.
This was an important victory, not just in the sense of the game in isolation, but because they simply had to bounce back from the 2-1 home defeat to Fulham last weekend.
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag after a Premier League game.
However, the Manchester derby awaits Erik ten Hag’s side on Sunday, with the Red Devils going into the tie as the heavy underdog against imperious rivals, Manchester City.
That said, the return of one individual who barely featured against Forest could just give them a much better chance of victory than if Antony was to start from the off.
Antony’s performance versus Forest
It’s well known that Antony has performed way below the potential he once showcased at Ajax and even during the start of his United career.
The Brazilian has yet to register a goal contribution in the Premier League this season, despite playing 20 games, and because of that, he’s lost his spot in the side to Alejandro Garnacho.
Manchester United's Antony.
However, the 24-year-old did show glimpses of improvement against the Tricky Trees on Wednesday night, his first start against a Premier League club since December.
The winger retained the ball extremely well and combined nicely when drifting inside from the right, as shown by his 95% pass accuracy and 58 touches.
Chalkboard
Football FanCast's Chalkboard series presents a tactical discussion from around the global game.
However, unlike what we’ve seen for most of this season, the number 21 was willing to take a few risks, shooting three times and registering four key passes.
Despite it being an improved performance, he didn’t quite do enough to warrant a start on Sunday, and he should drop to the bench for a very special prospect.

ByTom Lever Mar 1, 2024 Why Kobbie Mainoo must return to the starting XI
Kobbie Mainoo earned himself a well-deserved rest on Wednesday after being thrown in at the deep end and starting all 12 games prior.
But there’s no doubt that the 6 foot 18-year-old should return to the team ahead of the huge clash against City, despite his lack of experience.
Earlier this season, Ten Hag’s team held Liverpool to an impressive 0-0 draw at Anfield, becoming the only team to keep a clean sheet against the Reds all season, and a very similar game plan is expected this weekend.
Mainoo started that game alongside Sofyan Amrabat, where he showed his defensive abilities as well as his composure in possession, as can be seen in the table below.

At the Etihad, Pep Guardiola’s side is guaranteed to dominate the ball, which means that when the visitors do get hold of it, they simply cannot be wasteful, which is where the “sensational” Mainoo will help, as called by journalist Liam Canning.
The number 37’s role in the team could mirror the task that Fred used to undertake when playing City, marking Kevin De Bruyne from the first whistle to the last.
This could see Scott McTominay keep his place in the side and Bruno Fernandes move to a right midfield role, like he played in the reverse fixture earlier this season.
Despite his age, Mainoo is more than up to the task of frustrating City, and he simply has to return to the side on Sunday.
