Sunrisers edge high-scoring game

Shikhar Dhawan and Eoin Morgan carried Sunrisers Hyderabad to 201 before their bowlers saw off a late burst from the Rajasthan Royals lower order for a seven-run win

O’Brien: Royals could miss out on knockouts

Sunrisers Hyderabad took the call of leaving out both their star overseas fast bowlers Dale Steyn and Trent Boult for the first time this season. They shored up their notoriously thin middle order with the inclusion of Ravi Bopara, and then had their four overseas players bat in the top five. The result was a 200-plus total after being put in. David Warner provided the start, Shikhar Dhawan the middle-overs meat with 54 off 35, and Eoin Morgan the finish with 63 off 28, his fastest IPL innings.Rajasthan Royals lost Ajinkya Rahane and Shane Watson within the first four overs. Steven Smith made 68 off 40 but had too much to do with little support. There were late blows from James Faulkner and Sanju Samson, but with 57 needed from three overs, both fell to Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Sunrisers seemed to have sealed the game. Chris Morris swung Praveen Kumar for three successive sixes to bring it down to 22 off nine, before the Kumars tightened up again.Starting strongly has not been an issue for Sunrisers, and Dhawan and Warner provided another solid base as they put on 48 inside five overs. Warner had issues with his back and took treatment in the middle, eventually nicking behind trying to hit a third successive four off Watson.Sustaining the momentum given by the openers has been Sunrisers’ problem area but though Moises Henriques struggled to get going at No. 3, Dhawan kept scoring at a healthy pace. There were his usual punches and pulls, and he also resorted to a few reverse-hits before another attempt resulted in him being bowled by James Faulkner.Sunrisers were 127 for 3 in the 15th over then, and have often failed to finish strongly from such stable positions. But Morgan was to finally do the job he has been picked for several times this season. He was on 18 off 15 in the 16th over when he suddenly accelerated full throttle. Six of his next eight balls went for either four or six as Morgan sped to his half-century in 23 balls. Targetting the straight boundary mostly, Morgan spoiled Pravin Tambe and Morris’ figures. The fast bowler came back with a tight last over but could not prevent Sunrisers from going past 200.The Sunrisers seamers were disciplined at the start of the chase. Even as batsmen kept falling at one end trying to force their way through lack of pace, Smith continued to keep Royals alive. His shuffling created angles and room the others did not have. After he missed one off Ravi Bopara in the 15th over, the lower order kept connecting with the boundaries right till the end. Two sixes off the last two balls could have forced a Super Over, but Morris managed a four and a single.

Carioca-2020 tem novo regulamento. Saiba detalhes da competição!

MatériaMais Notícias

A próxima edição do Campeonato Carioca apresentará novidades.

Proposta do Fluminense é descartada

Tamim surpasses Bashar for Bangladesh record

Tamim Iqbal became Bangladesh’s highest Test scorer when he scored seven runs on the fourth morning against India, crossing Habibul Bashar’s 3026 runs

Mohammad Isam in Fatullah13-Jun-2015Tamim Iqbal became Bangladesh’s highest Test run-scorer when he made seven runs on the fourth morning against India, crossing Habibul Bashar’s 3026 runs. The record was broken more than eight years after Bashar ended his Test career in 2008, but Tamim, who is also Bangladesh’s highest run-getter in ODIs, said he would have been happier had he reached the milestone earlier.Aminul Islam was Bangladesh’s highest scorer till their first two Tests. Bashar overtook him in the country’s third Test in Harare. Aminul made just two in the second innings which took him to 260 but Bashar followed him with 76, which took him to 265 runs in Test cricket. From that point onwards, Bashar held the highest scorer’s position for more than 14 years. In the third over of the fourth morning in Fatullah, Tamim clipped India pace bowler Ishant Sharma towards fine leg for two off the eighth ball he faced to reach the milestone. There was no celebration from Tamim, nor was there any announcement at the ground. Since the giant screen at the stadium also does not work, there remained very few people at the ground who knew about the landmark.”Actually it took around 7-8 years for me but in this time I have played only 40 Tests and I achieved the stat 10 Tests before [Bashar],” Tamim said. “If I could have reached the mark a few Tests earlier, it definitely would have been good. And those who are close to this record, had they achieved this before it would have been good thing for all of us in terms of quality.”Bashar, who arrived in Fatullah earlier than usual to ensure he was there to witness his own record being broken, said he was happy to see Tamim cross him and wanted the batsman to score 10,000 Test runs.”I came to the ground early today hoping to see Tamim cross my record,” Bashar told ESPNcricinfo. “I told him before the Test match that I wanted to see him do it in this game. I didn’t want to wait for too long.”It is good to see Tamim cross me. It was a long-standing record. I was the highest scorer for a long time actually. But I want Tamim to score at least 10000 runs. I always thought that it would be Shakib or Tamim who would take over my run-scoring record.”Tamim, however, said that at the rate Bangladesh played Tests every year, it would be hard for him to reach that mark. The Fatullah Test against India was his 40th game while Bangladesh is playing their 42nd Test during his Test career. Bangladesh have played the second lowest number of Tests during this time. There are 47 players who have played more Tests than him during his Test career.”It looks difficult because on an average we play 3-4 Tests a year. So if I play for ten years I will be able to play just around 40 Tests if things go that way. It is difficult to achieve that mark, not just for me but for any top player to score 10000 runs in 60 to 70 Tests But if we play more Tests, at least 7-8 Tests then it is possible. It depends on my form and fitness so maybe it is possible.”Scoring 10,000 runs is anybody’s dream. But we don’t play enough matches. Even if I average at 50 at this current frequency of matches, it won’t be enough.”Tamim predicted that someone like Mominul Haque is most likely to surpass his haul in the near future, at a faster rate. “I never think that the record will stay for a long time. If you see Mominul’s average… he should overtake this score 5-6 matches before me. And the way he is playing I think he and other young players can do this. Maybe I have overcome Shumon [Bashar] bhai’s record 10 matches before him, others may do it 5-6-7 matches before me,” he said.Bashar played 50 Tests during his eight-year Test career, scoring at an average of 30.87 with three hundreds and 24 fifties. Tamim has a better conversion rate, with seven centuries and 17 fifties from 40 Tests. Bashar felt he had missed out on plenty of runs in his career due to the poor facilities around the senior team during his time.”I could have scored six to seven thousand runs had I been a player these days. Facilities now are so much better from the start. I also missed out on a number of hundreds,” Bashar said. “I wish I converted those 24 fifties into more centuries. In my day there was not much competition too for places in the team. Only [Mohammad] Ashraful was around.”When Bashar’s career ended in early 2008, Tamim had played only three Tests and Bangladesh’s Test batting line-up looked unsafe without their only consistent scorer at the time. Tamim has been part of the change, and that has pleased Bashar, who is currently a selector.”[Habibul Bashar] Shumon bhai had come to the dressing room to congratulate me and that was very nice of him,” Tamim said.

Rudolph extends Hampshire slump

Jacques Rudolph hit a splendid 77 as Glamorgan leapfrogged Hampshire into the NatWest T20 Blast South Group qualification positions.Former Test star Rudolph scored his third half-century in the competition as the visitors returned to Wales with two points. The Southampton setback completed a bad week for Hampshire who were annihilated at Essex last Friday and outclassed at Lord’s by Middlesex in the LV= County Championship. The 23-run defeat was Hampshire’s fifth in a row across the formats and a sixth finals day in succession looks more and more unlikely.Insights

Five of Glamorgan’s six wins this season have seen them bat first and post a handsome total thanks to one of their South African top order guns. It was Colin Ingram’s turn last week against Somerset but Jacques Rudolph – who scored 50s then a century in Glamorgan’s first three wins – was back on form on Friday. Rudolph consistently struck boundaries – generally conventional shots, but with a reverse sweep and a switch-hit thrown in too – to put pressure on Hampshire’s bowlers. By the time he fell, Meschede had a handsome platform to swipe from.

After winning the toss and batting, Rudolph started as he meant to go on with a sumptuous cover drive and a swipe through the off side for two early boundaries. The opening maximum of the night came from birthday boy Colin Ingram who hit over the covers to the minuscule boundary before offering Vince a steepling catch to give the home side the breakthrough.South African Rudolph reverse-swept a firm four to reach the end of the powerplay 54 for two, before a flurry of wickets.Jackson Bird flew to his left to pluck a Ben Wright drive out of the air and then Chris Cooke pushed straight to Jimmy Adams at backward point to give Danny Briggs his first of the night.Amongst the wickets, Rudolph brought up his half-century with a powerful sweep and a single off 30 balls.Briggs was the pick of the Hampshire bowlers, ending with figures of 2 for 13 and picking up his second wicket of the evening as David Lloyd picked out Chris Wood.Mark Wallace forced a stunning catch from wicketkeeping counterpart Adam Wheater after striking a rapid 21 from 14 before Rudolph produced the shot of the night with a switch-hit but two balls later Wood found a top edge before a second incredible Wheater claim.Glamorgan accelerated towards the close as Craig Meschede smashed 35 off 17 balls, including four sixes, to reach 181 from their 20 overs.Hampshire began their first chase of the season at the Ageas Bowl in sluggish style before Michael Carberry lofted the first six of the innings over the covers in the third over.Carberry and opening partner James Vince began an onslaught on the Glamorgan attack, the former collecting a trio of boundaries off Michael Hogan.Just as the pair were ticking Vince chipped to Andrew Salter to depart for 28 and end a quality opening stand of 69 for the biggest partnership of the night.Carberry smacked his second maximum into the back row of the stand to a grateful fan – which brought up a 31-ball 50, his 25th half-century in this format.Adams and Owais Shah both swung across the line to fall identically leg before wicket for five as Hampshire stuttered, then Carberry fell trying to slog Ruaidhri Smith out of the park for a 45-ball 70.The home side’s crumble continued as Will Smith hit straight to Hogan before Wheater holed out to end the contest.

Quinze mil ingressos vendidos contra o Cruzeiro; meta da diretoria é 30 mil

A torcida do Botafogo abraçou o time.

-Torcida do fogão, no último jogo vocês fizeram a diferença.

É importante, lógico, fazermos a nossa parte.

-> Veja a classificação do Campeonato Brasileiro e use o simulador!

Hodge heroics stuns Karachi Kings

Brad Hodge hit six fours and as many sixes in his unbeaten 45-ball 85 as Peshawar recovered from 69 for 4 in 11.5 overs to overhaul Karachi’s 152 for 7 with nine balls to spare

‘We were winning until Hodge got hold of us’ – Bopara

Brad Hodge turned a chase that was headed nowhere into realms of possibility, and within the bat of an eyelid, blasted the ball to all corners of the Dubai Cricket Stadium. Peshawar Zalmi blew away Karachi Kings in a manic 10-minute passage to win by five wickets and move to the top of the PSL standings.Hodge hit six fours and as many sixes in his unbeaten 45-ball 85 as Peshawar recovered from 69 for 4 in 11.5 overs to overhaul Karachi’s 152 for 7 with nine balls to spare. The turning point in the chase was the 16th over, bowled by legspinner Usama Mir, where Hodge smashed a four and three successive sixes to reduce the equation to 32 off the last four overs. The next over was hit for 14, and the wheels came off Karachi’s bowling unit, with Darren Sammy sealing the game with a muscular hit into the stands at deep midwicket. That Peshawar were set 153 was largely due to the efforts of Lendl Simmons, who top scored with 49 and held the innings together for a while, before it fell apart as one batsman after another was dismissed in a quest to up the ante. The second-highest scorer of the innings was Ravi Bopara, who made a 22-ball 23 to shore up the total after a middle-order meltdown.Peshawar started badly as the new ball pair of Mohammad Amir and Bilawal Bhatti removed the openers with the score at just 25 inside five overs. Jim Allenby, the Australian batsman, revived the innings with a 29-ball 31, but his dismissal followed by Shahid Afridi’s in consecutive overs meant the chase hit a roadblock at 69 for 4.But Peshwar were not to be denied as Hodge cashed in on the first sign of complacency from Karachi by mixing a bit of brute strength and fineness in his effort to turn the game in no time. Such was the quality of his knock that even the dismissal of Kamran Akmal, with Peshawar still needing 32, largely went unnoticed.Having lost the game from a position of strength, Karachi will have to hope for a Lahore Qalandars win in the second match of the night to progress.

Opener Cameron Bancroft scored his sixth first-class century to give Western Australia a 195-run first-innings lead in Perth. New South Wales, however, hit back, courtesy an unbroken 86-run partnership between Daniel Hughes and Kurtis Patterson. The steady stand had come after Nick Larkin was dismissed by Joel Paris for 11.The hosts remained in control for most of the day, Bancroft leading the way and pushing for an Australia berth with 144 off 340 balls, spanning 444 minutes. He was assisted by Ashton Turner and Hilton Cartwright who stroked fifties each. Western Australia eventually declared at 8 for 511 in 136 overs.New South Wales were crippled by left-arm spinner Steve O’Keefe’s finger injury, which he had sustained while batting. Gurinder Sandhu ditched his medium-pace for offspin, something he had done during the A tour to India last year, and removed Sam Whiteman and Ashton Agar in successive balls. Sandhu finished with figures of 3 for 110, one of the three bowlers to concede more than 100 runs.Hughes and Curtis then combined well in New South Wales’ second innings to trim the deficit to 88 runs.
