Some details have emerged of the Premier League’s involvement in the potential takeover of Newcastle United, with the top flight failing to keep their promise to reform the Owners’ and Directors’ Test (ODT).

The Lowdown: Arbitration soon

The arbitration case between the St. James’ Park faithful and the English top flight over the failing of the deal between Mike Ashley and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA) group is not far away.

Ashley has also launched a separate anti-competition claim against the division over their decision-making process in failing the bid, but that is thought to be in his back pocket in case the arbitration hearing does not go in his favour.

The Latest: Hurst slams Premier League and ODT

Details have emerged over a discussion between the Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) and the panel of the fan-led review into football governance over the involvement of the Premier League in the whole takeover saga.

Speaking to The Chronicle, NUST board member Alex Hurst explained that among other things, the top flight’s involvement in the takeover was discussed, in particular the handling of their Owners’ and Directors’ Test (ODT):

“We touched on the owners and directors test issues. There’s no transparency there from the Premier League either.

“They promised transparency and to reform the ODT after the shambles of last summer but they haven’t. How can we trust the Premier League to regulate Newcastle United when it can’t regulate itself?

“We are in favour of the independent regulator. Very much so.”

The Verdict: ODT may need a revamp

The ODT may certainly need a revamp, given that the Premier League dwelled on the Magpies takeover for far too long, perhaps proving that the entire system is not efficient or transparent enough.

However, one thing that the ODT is clear on with regards to the potential takeover in the North East is that the KSA’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) must be considered a separate entity to the Saudi state.

If that separation can be proved, it would certainly be a big plus in terms of trying to push the deal through.

Nonetheless, the arbitration proceedings should give a much clearer picture over the direction of where the bid is heading, but the ODT will still unfortunately play its part.

A dupla também tem passagem pelas seleções de Argentina e Equador, respectivamente.

Os dois também foram os primeiros anunciados por suas equipes como reforços para este 2017. No lado do Vasco, Escudero foi confirmado na madrugada do Natal do ano passado como presente para os vascaínos, enquanto Sornoza teve a sua confirmação pelo Fluminense em junho de 2016, meses antes de sua chegada ao Rio de Janeiro. Foram bem recebidos por seus torcedores.

Apesar de ser a estreia no Campeonato Carioca para os dois, Escudero e Sornoza já entraram em campo neste mês. Pelo Vasco, o argentino participou da Florida Cup, torneio de pré-temporada que foi disputado pela equipe nos Estados Unidos (os vascaínos terminaram na terceira colocação) e recebeu elogios do técnico Cristovão Borges, que confirmou que ele vai para o clássico.

– O Escudero passou por uma situação parecida com a do Muriqui. Quando eles começaram a treinar, a pré-temporada já tinha começado. Isso fez a diferença quando eles participaram dos jogos. Para eles, foi um esforço muito grande. O importante é que ele voltou, treinou, tem ido bem e vai para o jogo – afirmou o técnico em sua última entrevista.

Já Sornoza fez a sua estreia na semana passada, na Primeira Liga, quando o Fluminense derrotou o Criciúma por 3 a 2. Assim como Escudero recebeu elogios de Cristovão Borges, o técnico Abel Braga falou bem do reforço pela atuação. Inclusive, foi o responsável em dar uma das assistências a gol do time tricolor. Nos jogos-treino disputados, também se sobressaiu no elenco.

– As primeiras semanas do Sornoza foram incríveis defendendo as cores do Fluminense. É um cara muito solto, à vontade, brincalhão. Ele joga futebol brincando – resumiu.

Assim que a bola rolar, Escudero e Sornoza colocarão o cérebro para trabalhar. O objetivo da dupla gringa é fazer com que o Vasco, para o argentino, e o Fluminense, para o equatoriano, iniciem vencendo o Carioca.

O Vasco segue no mercado de transferência em busca de outros reforços ao time antes do término do período de inscrição para o Campeonato Carioca (penúltimo dia útil que anteceder a 4ª rodada da Taça Guanabara). Depois das chegadas dos meias Escudero e Wagner e do atacante Muriqui, além do acerto com o lateral-direito Gilberto, há a espera agora pelo também atacante Luis Fabiano.

John Kennedy is considering his future at Celtic, according to a report from the Daily Mail, cited by the Glasgow Evening Times.

The Lowdown: Kennedy’s spell as caretaker

It’s safe to say Kennedy has had a busy few months at Parkhead.

The 4-4-2 style coach was placed in interim charge following Neil Lennon’s resignation back in February and took charge of 10 games, averaging 1.6 points per game.

The Hoops were also knocked out of the Scottish Cup by rivals Rangers under the 37-year-old’s guidance, and it seems as if his days at the club could now be numbered.

The Latest: Kennedy exit update; Postecoglou’s plans

According to the Daily Mail, cited by the Glasgow Evening Times, Kennedy could look at options elsewhere as he has ambitions to become a full-time manager.

He looks set to oversee Celtic’s pre-season preparations before Postecoglou can take over, with the new Hoops boss then likely to bring in his own backroom staff.

That could spell trouble for Kennedy, Gavin Strachan and Stephen McManus, with the trio possibly not in his thoughts, the report states.

The Verdict: Should Postecoglou keep Kennedy and co around?

Former Rangers midfielder Kevin Muscat had been linked with a reunion with Postecoglou as his assistant, however, those rumours have since been squashed.

Muscat has experience of winning in Scotland, as does Kennedy, so there’s perhaps an argument for the Australian to keep the Scot around as part of his staff.

However, on the flip side of that, you could say Celtic are now looking at a complete off-park rebuild with Dominic McKay replacing Peter Lawwell and Postecoglou replacing Lennon, so a clean slate could also be a good idea.

It’ll be interesting to see what happens with Kennedy, but it appears he has plans to pursue a managerial career.

Jadson tinha mais um ano de vínculo na Ásia, mas entrou em acordo, receberá uma generosa multa rescisória e já assinou a rescisão, que deve ser anunciada em breve pelo Tianjin.

A decisão de rescindir o contrato partiu do próprio clube chinês, que subiu para a Primeira Divisão na última temporada e promete fazer gastos mais altos do que fez no ano passado, quando contratou os brasileiros Jadson, Luis Fabiano e Geuvânio – os dois primeiros, inclusive, não fazem parte dos planos. O Tianjin deseja preencher a cota de três ou quatro estrangeiros (a liga local estuda reduzir o número de entradas) com nomes mais “pomposos”, e decidiu liberar Jadson unilateralmente – um ano de contrato equivale a R$ 18 milhões, mas os valores acordados para a rescisão não foram divulgados.

O acordo entre Tianjin e Jadson já estava encaminhado há algumas semanas, tanto é que um dos representantes do jogador foi à China na época da reapresentação do meia. Agora, Jadson está livre.
