Rangers will face Premier League outfit Tottenham Hotspur in a pre-season friendly at Ibrox this summer.

The lowdown

Rangers will likely be preparing for Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s first full season at the helm. In addition to drawing up transfers, they’ll also have to arrange friendlies to help the squad build fitness for competitive fixtures.

If Rangers finish second in the Scottish Premiership and fail to win the Europa League, then they’re likely to enter the second round of Champions League qualifiers, scheduled for the second half of July.

Meanwhile, the start of the SPFL season is pencilled in for the weekend of 30/31 July.

Football London’s Alasdair Gold writes that Rangers held talks with Spurs this week over a potential summer meeting at Ibrox.

The Lilywhites are due to jet off to South Korea for two matches, and wanted to line up a game in Glasgow on their return.

And those efforts have been a success, with the ‘excited’ Spurs officially confirming the fixture for Saturday July 23.

The verdict: Exciting indeed

This can only be good news. Rangers’ players get the chance to test themselves against elite opposition, and the added intensity should be of benefit to Van Bronckhorst’s side.

Last summer, when they faced Spurs’ North London rivals Arsenal, they could only welcome 2,000 spectators amid coronavirus restrictions, but this year, there’s no reason why they can’t get close to a full house and generate considerable funds too.

And the club hierarchy will be looking for alternative revenue sources this pre-season after backing out a friendly against Celtic in Australia following a backlash from fans.

ENCHARCOU
A chuva forte e os raios em Novo Horizonte dificultaram a saída de bola das duas equipes. Porém, o Novorizontino foi quem levou a melhor por conhecer o campo e estarem acostumados com o clima chuvoso da cidade.

O gramado encharcou e o Santos teve muita dificuldade em ultrapassar os adversários e criar jogadas. A bola, que pouco rolava, driblava os atletas santistas, que não conseguiram ficar com a redonda por muito tempo nos pés.

NÃO DEU
O Peixe arriscou algumas finalizações, mas viu o Tigre crescer dentro de campo e ter um primeiro tempo superior. Jean Carlos, inclusive, faz belo lançamento para Juninho, que avança e chuta. A bola desvia em Lucas Veríssimo e não dá chances para Vanderlei.

Minutos mais tarde o Peixe por pouco não sofre o segundo. Em cruzamento a bola sobra para Éder, que desperdiça e chuta para fora.

VOLTA POR CIMA
Na segunda etapa o gramado já aparentava melhores condições. Mais seco, a bola rolava normalmente, o que se tornou um problema para os jogadores de Doriva. O Alvinegro cresceu na partida e passou a ficar mais com a bola.

Yuri Alberto, aposta de Jair Ventura no ataque, voltou melhor e foi responsável pelo empate. Em uma bola parada, Dodô deu belo cruzamento e o jovem enfiou a bola para dentro em um rebote do Oliveira.

INFELICIDADE
O empate durou pouco. E o mérito nem foi do Novorizontino. Safira avançou pela direita e arriscou um cruzamento. Lucas Veríssimo, bem posicionado, não conseguiu evitar a explosão em seu ombro e teve a infelicidade de marcar contra.

E não foi apenas o zagueiro que vacilou. Jean Patrick deixou o seu time com um a menos depois de brigar com Anderson Salles, seu companheiro de equipe e ser expulso de campo.

JAIR OUSA
Inicialmente o treinador já apostava em velocidade e agilidade, mas não contava com um gramado encharcado. Com a melhora no segundo tempo, Jair trocou Vecchio, que errou muitos passes e atuou abaixo, por Bueno, e Arthur Gomes por Diogo Vitor.

Vale ressaltar as boas atuações de Alison e Dodô. O volante foi capitão nesta noite e teve atuação impecável: facilidade nos desarmes, cortes precisos e foi participativo. O lateral esquerdo estreou e não deixou a desejar. Mostrou regularidade, bom passe e ajudou na frente.

PERDEU A CHANCE
Nos minutos finais Diogo Vitor arrisca cruzamento da linha de fundo, mas bola sai e gol de Gustavo Henrique é anulado.

O Santos enfrenta o São Bento no próximo domingo, às 17, na Vila Belmiro, pelo Paulista. O Novorizontino tem confronto com o Santro André, no mesmo horário, no estádio Bruno José Daniel, também pelo Paulista.

ورحل رونالدو عن مانشستر يونايتد بعد اتفاق مع الإدارة بالتراضي على فسخ تعاقده مع تصريحاته النارية التي هاجم فيها الملاك وانتقد وقلل من احترامه للمدرب إريك تين هاج، قبل بداية كأس العالم 2022.

وبحسب صحيفة “ماركا” أن رونالدو اقترب من إبرام اتفاق مع نادي النصر المنافس في الدوري السعودي لمدة موسمين ونصف وسيبلغ راتبه السنوي 200 مليون يورو شامل الإعلانات، أي إجمالي ما سيحصل عليه هناك يصل إلى 500 مليون يورو.

“He can make a significant difference and the fact that he’s back at full fitness just as Adam Forshaw is out for the season is so important.

The Verdict: Has to happen

Leeds’ campaign has now reached its most critical point, with the Whites on the verge of being dragged into the relegation zone if results don’t improve.

For that reason, it is time for Marsch to take a punt on Phillips from the start at Palace, with the 26-year-old arguably among the most influential players at the club. As Hay mentions, Forshaw’s enforced absence makes it even more paramount for the manager to include the England international in the line-up.

Phillips already has two cameo appearances under his belt since returning earlier this month, and now is the time to try and test him for a full 90 minutes, or at least an hour or so.
