Mosaddek, Shakib star in Dhaka win

Dhaka Dynamites couldn’t quite make use of Mosaddek Hossain’s late-order hitting against Rajshahi Kings, but his unbeaten 28-ball 48 came in handy on Saturday as Dhaka Dynamites beat Rangpur Riders by 78 runs in Mirpur

Dhaka Dynamites couldn’t quite make use of Mosaddek Hossain’s late-order hitting against Rajshahi Kings, but his unbeaten 28-ball 48 came in handy on Saturday as Dhaka Dynamites beat Rangpur Riders by 78 runs in Mirpur.Rangpur, unbeaten in their first two matches, conceded 64 runs in the last five overs. Then, their big-hitters failed to turn up in a chase of 171. They stumbled to 92 for 9, with last man Richard Gleeson absent hurt. Both sides now have two wins in three matches.Mosaddek walked out to bat amidst a collapse – Dhaka slipped from 79 for 1 when Nasir fell for 38, to 80 for 4 when Kumar Sangakkara was out for 29. But he quickly found his grove by cutting Shahid Afridi, going inside-out over cover off Arafat Sunny and then hitting Rubel Hossain for six over point. He added 40 for the fifth-wicket with Shakib and then added 33 with Dwayne Bravo. Such was the confidence as the innings progressed that he even successfully reverse-swept Afridi. Seekkuge Prasanna struck Muktar Ali for two sixes in the last over that went for 16 runs to give Dhaka a flourish at the end.Rangpur’s reply began ominously when Mohammad Shahzad, reprieved at slip off the first ball, whipped Dwayne Bravo for six over midwicket. But Soumya Sarkar and Mohammad Mithun’s dwickets set them back. Nasir then took a tumbling catch running back from mid-off to get rid of Shahzad for 11.Umpire Khalid Mahmud then adjudged Liam Dawson leg-before though replays confirmed that he had inside edged the ball on to his front pad. When Afridi holed out at cover in the 14th over, off Shakib, Rangpur’s chase was all but over at 65 for 5. It continued to go downhill as Naeem Islam fell for a labored 26. Such was the collapse that the game was reduced to a mere formality halfway through the chase.

West Ham Eye ‘Fantastic’ £50k-p/w Star; Imagine Him & Bowen

The recently crowned 2023 Europa Conference League champions are riding the crest of a footballing wave; European success and the mouth-watering prospect of more memorable conquests across the continent for West Ham.

As a result of his monumental triumph, David Moyes could be awarded a lucrative transfer budget to prepare his squad for a third-consecutive season of European football.

With the impending departure of club captain Declan Rice on the horizon, the club will need to reshape its midfield, and Conor Gallagher has emerged as a possible target.

What’s the latest on Conor Gallagher to West Ham?

According to a recent report from Football Transfers, the Chelsea player, alongside James Ward-Prowse and Scott McTominay, have been tipped to fill Rice’s void.

In a previous report by talkSPORT, the Englishman has been valued at around £40m, which would leave the Hammers with a healthy segment of the £120m they are expecting from their captain's sale.

Gallagher’s season has divided many opinions, but a move to the London Stadium could reignite his stuttering career.

What can Gallagher bring to West Ham?

The 23-year-old was in formidable form when he was on loan at Crystal Palace last season. In 34 appearances for Patrick Vieira, the £50k-per-week star registered 11 goal contributions and the highest average rating (7.09) of any Eagles player, as per WhoScored.

Although he has been described as looking like a “fish out of water” during his time at Chelsea, his energy, work rate, and athleticism are infectious, and when his confidence is high he has a keen eye for goal.

This is showcased by the fact that the six-cap international ranks within the top 19% In Europe’s top five leagues among his positional peers for progressive carries and touches in the attacking penalty area per 90, as well as the highest 23% for tackles per 90, according to FBref.

This displays his contribution at both ends of the pitch and an unrelenting willingness to constantly be involved.

His tendency to find himself in offensive positions means he could formidably link up with Jarrod Bowen, who wrote his name into folklore thanks to his last-gasp winner against Fiorentina.

Jarrod Bowen West Ham

It was Bowen’s 40th goal in a West Ham shirt, which is nicely complimented by his 32 assists, and he has emerged as a fountain of productivity and an indispensable component of the progression under Moyes.

As Gallagher largely outstrips Rice in attacking areas, with the Hammers skipper scoring five times this season, this could benefit the winger as the Epsom-born talent will undoubtedly offer him more support going forward.

Described as “fantastic” by his former manager Graham Potter, Gallagher has already proven his top-flight pedigree and deserves a chance in East London to shine alongside his fellow countryman.

A back strain has ruled Bhuvneshwar Kumar out of the third Test between India and New Zealand in Indore. According to a BCCI release, Bhuvneshwar sustained the injury during the second Test in Kolkata. Shardul Thakur has replaced him in India’s squad.Bhuvneshwar played a key role in India’s 178-run win in Kolkata, taking six wickets in the match including a five-for in the first innings that gave India a decisive 112-run lead. It was his second five-wicket haul in three Test matches. His injury is the second major blow to India’s pace attack in the series. Ishant Sharma has played no part in the series, after being diagnosed with the mosquito-borne viral infection chikungunya.Thakur is yet to play a Test match for India. The Mumbai seamer earned his first call-up to the squad during India’s tour of the West Indies in July-August.

'I would be reluctant to tour Bangladesh' – Pietersen

Kevin Pietersen has admitted that he would not be comfortable touring Bangladesh in the current circumstances.

George Dobell26-Aug-2016Kevin Pietersen has admitted that he would not be comfortable touring Bangladesh in the current circumstances. The ECB announced on Thursday that England’s Test and ODI tour of the country would go ahead as planned after assurances from the Bangladesh government. A terrorist attack in Dhaka in July left many dead but a delegation of ECB and PCA officials visited Bangladesh in recent days and concluded that the security measures in place assured the team of safety. But Pietersen says that he would be unwilling to go at present and feels that senior England players, especially those with families, will be equally reluctant.”It’s not somewhere I’d like to be for the next six weeks,” Pietersen told ESPNcricinfo. “The young ODI side might not have too many issues, but the older Test side might have a few issues.”Some of the older guys might have kids and other responsibilities, and might think ‘How can I get out of going to Bangladesh?’ They may think of this as an opportunity to get out of a Bangladesh tour. They’ll be looking at it. I know a lot of journalists don’t want to go to Bangladesh. So it’s going to be tough.”This is going to be one of the hardest decisions Alastair Cook has to make. Would I want to go? No. But I don’t think one guy can pull out. If one goes, you’ve all got to go. It would be difficult to pull out of the tour.”Pietersen was captain of the England team that returned to India in late 2008 after the terrorist attacks in Mumbai. Having originally abandoned the tour during the ODI series, Pietersen was at the forefront of those arguing that the team should return to play the two Test series. But now, as a father of two, he admits it would be a much harder decision. And he accepts that he now has greater sympathy for those players who were originally less keen to return to India – not least Steve Harmison and Andrew Flintoff – due to their responsibilities as parents.Ultimately, the whole squad, including Flintoff and Harmison, returned to India. But there was cynicism from some players over Pietersen’s motives for wanting to return and he feels the episode “damaged a lot of relationships”.”That’s why I’ve said I wasn’t the right person to captain England at the time,” Pietersen said. “I didn’t understand the circumstances of the guys who had kids at that time. I didn’t understand it at all.”I think it damaged a lot of relationships for me with the side and senior players. I wish I wasn’t captain of England at that time.”I did it before I had kids. It makes a huge difference. Your responsibilities change. Your priorities change. It would have been a harder decision.”Pietersen was speaking at Wellington College where his charitable foundation (The KP24 Foundation) is running a residential camp for 70 young people, many of them from ethnic minorities and quite a few refugees fleeing war, identified by county cricket boards and the Chance to Shine charity.”This is about helping kids,” he said. “It’s what I’ve dedicated myself to since I’ve calmed down on my cricketing front. I hope this is my legacy. It’s far more important than a stupid sport.”For more information visit kp24foundation.com

Aston Villa pull out of race for Bissouma

Yves Bissouma has long been touted as one of Aston Villa’s top transfer targets for the summer but in an unexpected twist, it now seems as if they have given up on signing him from Brighton.

What’s the word?

After seeing a bid for the Malian midfielder rejected in January, Villa were widely expected to return for the former Lille man this summer, although reports suggested that Brighton would demand as much as £50m.

Villa were still heavily linked, however, with some reports claiming that he was Gerrard’s top target as he looks to bolster his midfield options ahead of next season.

However, the Athletic’s Aston Villa correspondent Gregg Evans has now revealed the latest on Villa’s interest in Bissouma, writing:

“AVFC may still look for a new No.8 this summer, but BHAFC Yves Bissouma is no longer on the list. Villa have moved on.”

Villa supporters will be gutted

While Villa have already brought in Boubacar Kamara on a free transfer from Aston Villa, Bissouma would have offered Gerrard a box-to-box midfielder with plenty of Premier League experience.

The 25-year-old was Brighton’s best performer in the Premier League last season (of those to make at least 10 appearances) according to WhoScored, averaging an impressive 6.99 rating for his performances.

The same rating would have seen him ranked behind only John McGinn in Gerrard’s side, which suggests that he could have been an excellent addition at Villa Park.

Graham Potter was full of praise for the midfielder after a superb individual performance in Brighton’s impressive 1-0 win against Tottenham Hotspur last season, saying:

“Tactically Yves was really good. He understood when to cover and when to release and when to put pressure on and then you could see his qualities.

“His high-end actions are Champions League level. I think you saw the full array of his quality.”

Villa’s early transfer business has certainly suggested that they are targeting a European qualification spot next season and Bissouma could have added that extra quality to Gerrard’s midfield.

It is a surprise therefore that the Villans have ruled him out before the transfer window has even officially opened, and Villa supporters will no doubt be disappointed that he won’t be playing in claret and blue next season.

Rangers: Bassey linked with Aston Villa

Rangers defender Calvin Bassey could leave Ibrox behind this summer with Giovanni van Bronckhorst facing a battle to keep him in Glasgow.

What’s the news?

That’s according to a recent report from The Times, who suggest that van Bronckhorst could lose one of Rangers’ star men this season.

It’s said that Aston Villa are ready to step up their pursuit of the Gers defender in the coming weeks as he reportedly fits the bill for the defensive reinforcement that Steven Gerrard wants in his side.

The report also adds that Villa scouts were impressed by Bassey’s performance at Hampden during Rangers’ Scottish Cup victory over Hearts and that Gerrard is keen to reunite with the player after bringing him to Glasgow two years ago.

Disaster for Van Bronckhorst

As mentioned in the report, Rangers secured a deal for the Nigerian back in 2020 from Leicester City.

After securing the former Leicester youngster, Gerrard had this to say about him.

“He’s a strong and dynamic athlete who is very much the modern-day full-back. He’s left-footed, physically powerful and enjoys driving forward and is certainly equipped to thrive in the combative nature of Scottish football.”

During his time with the Ibrox side, Bassey has gone on to make 64 appearances for the Europa League finalists across all competitions, chipping in with one goal and six assists along the way.

With 49 appearances under his belt this season, the 22-year-old has been deployed in the left-back and centre-back positions, highlighting his versatility and usefulness to van Bronckhorst.

In addition to making 20 interceptions and 28 tackles in the SPFL this season, the Nigerian also racked up the third-highest number of crosses in Rangers’ squad with 92 completed.

Praised by Owen Hargreaves for his “astonishing” performance in the Europa League final against Eintracht Frankfurt, this shows just how much the defender can step up on the big stage when it matters for his current side. It also shows why letting him go at this stage of his career would be a disaster.

He is the future of Rangers and is demonstrating outstanding qualities. Combine that with how Rangers have a number of older defenders in their squad like Leon Balogun, Borna Barisic, Filip Helander and Connor Goldson, it only furthers the blow of potentially losing a younger talent this summer.

Evidently, if the club were to see Bassey leave Ibrox in the coming weeks, it would surely be a disaster for the club and the backroom staff.

Liverpool linked with De Ligt move

Liverpool have been linked with a move for Juventus centre-back Matthijs de Ligt.

The Lowdown: De Ligt impressing at Juve

The 22-year-old has been considered one of the world’s leading young centre-backs for an extended period now, having burst onto the scene for Ajax back in 2o18/19, helping them reach the Champions League semi-finals.

De Ligt is now impressing at Juve, making 30 Serie A appearances this season and even being compared to Cristiano Ronaldo by Edwin van der Sar, in terms of his mentality.

Th £63million-rated Dutchman may not be out of contract until 2024 but that hasn’t stopped an exit rumour from doing the rounds.

The Latest: Liverpool linked with move

According to Calciomercato [via Sport Witness], Juve have to ‘watch out’ for interest from Premier League clubs, with Liverpool name-checked in the report.

De Ligt has ‘no plans to leave’ the Turin giants currently, however, so it does appear as though a transfer is unlikely to materialise, but the outlet seems fearful of interest from the Reds.

The Verdict: Is he needed?

While De Ligt is a fantastic defender who most clubs in Europe would want – he’s been called ‘incredible’ by Andrea Barzagli – Liverpool simply have no reason to need him at the moment.

In Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip and Ibrahima Konate, Jurgen Klopp has three outstanding centre-backs at his disposal, while Joe Gomez also remains a great option, despite injury problems.

Further down the line, De Ligt could be a perfect signing for Liverpool – Van Dijk and Matip both turn 31 this year – but he may have moved elsewhere by the time the Reds duo are no longer at their best.

Spurs: Levy had a shocker on Mane

While things very much appear to be on the up for Tottenham Hotspur at present – with Antonio Conte having clawed Champions League qualification back into Spurs’ hands going into the final day of the season, Fabio Paratici having secured several extremely impressive signings in the transfer market and Harry Kane, Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski having formed a breathtakingly deadly attacking trio – there are still remnants of the old Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Indeed, with the likes of Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso, Harry Winks, Joe Rodon, Emerson Royal, Sergio Reguilon, Steven Bergwijn, Jack Clarke and Lucas Moura all looking as if they could be moved on at the end of the current campaign, it is clear to see that there is a great deal of deadwood that must be shifted in order for to Tottenham to truly progress under the management of Conte in 2022/23.

[snack-amp-story url= “https://www.footballfancast.com/web-stories/tottenham-hotspur-latest-news-updates-transfer-rumours-gossip-spurs-thfc-conte-paratici” title= “Read the latest Spurs news, transfer rumours and more!”]

This is largely down to Daniel Levy failing to implement a long-term transfer strategy at Spurs in years gone by, something that has also cost the club dearly in the targets they ended up choosing not to pursue – arguably the most notable of which was when the chairman backed out of a deal to bring then-Southampton forward Sadio Mane to Spurs in the summer of 2016.

Indeed, The Times reported back in 2017 that the Senegal international came so close to joining Spurs that he visited Hotspur Way to discuss a transfer from the South Coast side, only for Mauricio Pochettino to fail to convince Levy to meet the 24-year-old’s wage demands – with Mane ultimately sealing a £34m switch to Liverpool.

Since then, the £72m-rated winger has developed into one of the top forwards in world football, having scored 119 goals and registered 48 assists over his 267 appearances for the Reds.

That’s helped Jurgen Klopp’s side lift almost every trophy the club game has to offer, including the Premier League, the Champions League, the FIFA Club World Cup, the UEFA Super Cup, the FA Cup and the Carabao Cup, as well as winning the 2018/19 Premier League Golden Boot.

As such, it is clear for all to see that Levy had a nightmare when deciding against a move for the £100k-per-week man who Jamie Carragher dubbed “underrated” back in 2016.

Everton facing disaster over Calvert-Lewin

As interest surrounds Dominic Calvert-Lewin ahead of the summer transfer window, Frank Lampard could be heading for his first Everton nightmare in charge of the club.

What’s the word?

The Telegraph have reported that Newcastle United are planning an ambitious bid to bring the England striker to St James Park.

This could well depend on whether or not Everton are relegated from the Premier League, as it’s unlikely that Calvert-Lewin would want to feature in the Championship.

The Daily Mail claimed in March that his transfer fee could be north of £60m, and with the money being spent recently at Newcastle, that surely wouldn’t put them off.

Supporters will be livid

Lampard has had a difficult start to life with Everton, although a recent resurgence looks set to ensure they remain in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth.

What the manager can’t afford is his finest talents leaving Goodison Park, though, especially for divisional rivals.

Calvert-Lewin is essential to Everton improving as a squad, and despite him only netting three Premier League goals in an injury-plagued season, his record in previous campaigns suggests that Lampard has a wonderful talent on his hands who should be kept at all costs.

Signed from Sheffield United for only £1.5m back in 2016, the striker’s ascendency to the top has been remarkable. Since then, he has scored 56 goals in 188 matches for the Toffees, adding a further 17 assists as the team has generally underperformed under a series of managers.

England recognition followed in 2020 and he has since netted four times in just 11 appearances for the Three Lions, whilst also being part of the squad which finished runners-up to Italy in the delayed Euro 2020 tournament.

This shows just how highly Calvert-Lewin is rated, and with his former manager Carlo Ancelotti labelling him a “top striker”, there could be no limits as to his career progression

Lampard might face a testing summer transfer window, and it would be a nightmarish move from him if he allows his star striker to join a Premier League rival – assuming, of course, that Everton maintain their place in the top flight.

AND in other news: Everton can finally axe “poor” £68k-p/w dud by signing 22-year-old with “huge potential”
